Pneuma Hagion – Trinity I Review + Stream

Black goats and bleating Baphomets! What is this insanely heavy blackened fucking death cvlt music? Pneuma Hagion have crucified me with their sterling Trinity I release, upside down no less. Better get Al Necro a vomit bag and a Praetorian guard with a spear, because I’m surely going down into the depths listening to this. And I may not come back in a while.

This is heavy shit! No jokes, kiddies. I put the volume up too high before I destroyed the play button and the shit came out screaming from my speakers. What is it like? Filthy super-downtuned death metal that sounds like Gath Smane meets Incantation meets Mortician. They use live drums, though, so don’t think that Mortician element is present here. Thank Satan for that. They go into manic-depressive mode the way Incantation does, but they don’t go roly-poly on the slower sections, which sounds smart. No dissonant riffs à la Immolation on the slower segments, although I’m not opposed to that at all if the band had chosen to use some. Immolation rules after all. I still remember when Immolation bitch-raped my ears with Dawn of Possession like I was an inmate with a rectal infection.

Stay tuned demo coming out soon on NWN!

Some people might fault me for the Mortician comparison, but the guitar tone sounds so similar. It’s brutal blasts, slow-downs, slight gallops, then blastastic all over again. They won’t go Melo-death on you for Satan’s sake. If you’ve been listening to too much lead guitar, this band will restore you to abnormal again. Weirdos, for an all-out brutal attack on all that is mainstream in this world, you will love this! Especially recommended for cvlt warriors who dug Gath Smane last year.

There’s not too much to froth over in textbook speech. Gotta love a band that plays dark, tar-covered hyperspeed riffs to go with snare drum abuse. They never roll out the double-kick on this one, jamming it out slow to the sound of lurching double bass drum kicking like a heart arrhythmia. Why that? Don’t know fiends, just know this: some of the riffs are catchy and the slower sections chugga-chugga some to the sound of necks breaking. Think about the bayou rising with the floodwaters and pouring into homes close by, and you’ll get a picture of just how filthy this record is. Ready. Get set. Stream above!
