World Turning Grey…MORAL HEX Review + More

No boundaries…kids in black ready to attack, that was my crew when we were young, when peace punk pretty much equaled positive punk, aka goth. Many people forget about the unity that existed between both scenes – this unity went beyond just our mindset, it also found its’ way into the music we created. The year is not 1984 anymore, it’s 2011, & one band that is waving the anarcho/goth banner high is Portland’s Moral Hex. This band created a super rad 9-song demo in 2010 that is full of epic political death rock gems. To me, this band created a demo that is a tasty meal of gothic soul food, because each song has the right amount of blackened soul injected into them. Tanya, the vocalist, has an epic & sincere voice, plus the lyrics she writes are thought-provoking without being preachy at all. On songs like “Corporate,” the tribal drums kick in & you better pay attention as the she rides the rolling bass line. Moral Hex as a band builds some post punk sonic cathedrals that can stand the test of time against any band. This band also knows how to draw you into their universe of emotion, but at the same time many of their songs have this epic bounce to them. Even though Moral Hex has a dark vibe, you can feel this band’s enjoyment at creating together, which endears me to them even more. This type of music was the sonic fabric to my teenage years, & it’s super to see that another generation is creating an art form that has so much to offer the universe. Moral Hex has me under their spell. After the jump, check some rad video & the download link for their killer demo!
