Water Wealth Hell On Earth…
MEGATON LEVIATHAN
Review

If music has the energy to take us to other planes of thought, I know one band that is damn good at doing it, so fucking good in fact that it’s hard for me to come back to earth to write this review. I feel high & I have not even inhaled any of my bubba kush yet. It’s all of that MEGATON LEVIATHAN moving in & out of my thoughts. This Portland band are masters at creating transcendental doom gaze that is full of magick. Their 5 song self-titled EP will be released via Volatile Rock Records on Sept. 13th 2011. I’m amazed by MEGATON LEVIATHAN; their music is all about making your mind, body & soul go through different experiences while listening to their sound. It’s a trip, because when I hear their tune “Guns And LSD,” I get the sensation that I’m inhaling the kindest bud ever, & then exhaling myself into the past lives of the natives of this nation. This album has these basslines that seem like they were dipped in resin & dried under the Northwestern sun. I can’t help but feel at one with nature when hearing songs like “Repeating Patterns Of Love,” which is rad because I know there is way more to life than the concrete jungle I live in. People say that you are the product of your environment, and with MEGATON LEVIATHAN it is evident that they connect to mother nature. They have these moments in some of their songs where it feels like they are communicating with the sun & they are summoning it to burst through the dark clouds of humanity. The vocals on this EP are speaking the language of hope. The cadence is so awesome, the vocalist just glides over the track. MEGATON LEVIATHAN kills on their song “Time Fades” – they have the raddest riff to start the tune off, it’s a portal to a time where our existence was not tied to money, but to oneness with infinity. This band has taken doom & injected the genre with their own creative spirit, which is really refreshing. It must be said that every song on this EP is a sunset & sunrise of melodic euphoria! MEGATON LEVIATHAN will be the supporting band for the upcoming Wolves in the Throne Room tour, so make sure you get to shows early so you don’t miss them. That brings me to my last point: I know for a fact that seeing them live with a big spliff in hand would be superdelic!
