Victorian Photo Tricks… Clone Photos

Victorians had a lot of fun with the new invention of the camera. They would dress up and act out scenes, decapitate themselves and use double exposure to create the effect of a spirit in the photo with them. Adding in a “twin” or clone was another popular portrait trick. They must have thought these photos of themselves acting as both barber and customer were fucking hilarious. I bet they had some good times showing off their “twin” photo to their friends. Check out some Victorian double photography below.

    The photo of Mr Mansfield is of Richard Mansfield who was famous at the time for his portrayal of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
