VACCINE…
New 7″s Reviewed

Definitely one of powerviolence’s best in recent years, the Will Killingsworth helmed Vaccine recently dropped two new 7”s – an EP entitled Dead Inside and a split with Washington DC’s Coke Bust. Last year’s Human Hatred EP was a storming barrage to say the least and it’s hardly a surprise that these new slabs of utter hatred are even more so. Five new songs are offered up on the split with Coke Bust, again only clocking in at a very short 2 minutes and 50 odd seconds, so nothing much has changed in Vaccine’s approach. The drumming is fucking torturously unrelenting and the guitar just ferociously scratches through while the coarse baying vocals of Matt McKeown stand out as usual. He has such a visceral and fierce bark that’s become recognisable as his own and is another aspect of Vaccine that separates them from the powerviolence pack.

Meanwhile, Coke Bust’s side is nothing to sniff at either, setting out their stall with four new songs of belligerent punky aggression. Similarly, it’s a short running time with truck loads of aggression shoehorned into about four minutes.

Dead Inside allows Vaccine to deliver more tracks, this time 10 and it’s no surprise to find that it’s more caustic PV that takes no prisoners. The first song is the strangely titled Unbreakable, strange because Vaccine simply smash and destroy everything around them. However, songs titles like Constant War and Moral Decay are more on the money. But regardless of song names, the results are the same – total annihilation and in just over five minutes. The coarse aggression only slows for brief reprieves like that of Inferior on the Coke Bust split. Dead Inside is even more aggressive, quarrelsome and confrontational than its split counterpart, if that was even possible.

The Vaccine / Coke Bust split 7” is available through Refuse Records and Dead Inside is available from Painkiller Records.
