Together They Serve to Define the Process…
ASH POOL
Review

Shattered death, broken glass covered in raven’s blood, and the sound of charred audio torment is holding my reality hostage…what kind of black hole is causing these thoughts? All I can do at this point is bathe my nightmares in the filth and stench of the new ASH POOL demo, entitled Together They Serve to Define the Process, out now via Hospital Productions. This four song and 19-minute tape is ultra raw, rocking, primitive Black Metal the way it should be made, with rancid bile running through every second of this dark creation! I’m so impressed with this release – in a burnt nutshell, these songs are just plain and simple fucking awesome! ASH POOL’s writing is highly original, with unexpected turns that will lead you down the unknown dark streets of New York. On compositions like “Torquemada’s House,” you will get the taste slapped out of your mouth with grinding guitar riffage and an almost d-beat delivery on vocals – this song is insanity at it’s best! Then within all of this madness, there are breakdowns of chaotic melody which are almost trance-like. This dude does not fuck around with any atmospheric bullshit, but takes it straight to the jugular with angry, punked-out black metal. ASH POOL’s music is full of rotting grooves, so your blacked out brain cells will always have something to head bang and spazz out to at the same time. The song “Among the Pines” really stands out to me because of the way he uses Native American-sounding backing vocals, which are rad as fuck. The production on Together They Serve to Define the Process is perfect because it’s extra dirty, but everything still is clear and I dig the way it’s mixed. ASH POOL has done with this demo what some bands can’t do with a proper album, he has created music that will totally melt your brain with killer sounds of mayhem!
