Tide Is Rising…
SEVEN SISTERS of SLEEP
Review + More

I think I hear doom in the background…but it’s too fast. Wait a minute, I hear hardcore in the background, but the low end is too heavy. Did Black Flag come back to life in the form of the doom wizards Black Sabbath? Nope I don’t think so – in front of those Marshall stacks stands motherfucking Seven Sisters of Sleep. This Southern California band’s debut is off the meat rack; the vinyl version came out on A389 Records & now a special CD version is coming out on Southern Lord. Seven Sisters of Sleep is the kind of band that can make doom heads & hardcore kids say damn these dudes are rad! With ease this band weaves a super heavy sound with the speed of hardcore. For instance, on the track “Tide Is Rising,” the bass line is dirged out to the max, but once the drums kick they beat all around your skull then kick you in your gut! The vocalist has a filthy drawl that rides on top of all of the hectic grooves the band plays his way. Don’t trip, Seven Sisters of Sleep comes with that blackened voodoo boogie that keeps your attention the way all epic sludge is supposed too. I can’t put my finger on it, but this album has this pungent odor of cosmic doom funk that permeates the whole thing & in my book is the secret spice to this sonic pot of hardcore gumbo. If you want your music down-tuned with caustic rage, then fire up your bongs & check out Seven Sisters of Sleep. After the jump, peep out one of their killer live sets!
