The fumes of blackened death are rising from this tape. IVES’ Abandon tape is how I like my black metal cooked. This release has a healthy dose of punk put into the pot to help burn your braincells. Each track has a dirge monster that is controlling the energy of the song & of your nightmares. The sound quality is lo-fi but still very clear. IVES’ vocalist eats hate for dinner, then spits it out when he is in the booth. There is nothing beautiful about this tape & that exactly what I dig about it! Saying that IVES does have this blackened punk groove going on that is rad & engaging. One point that must be made about this release is that the songs are composed in a very intelligent way, & their use of space is spot!
