The “body farm” located in east Tennessee is a regulated conditional area for the study of human corpses in various conditions. The corpses are put under special conditions mirroring what might be found in most crime scenes. Tests are carried out on the decomposition processes and information is taken regarding the effects of cause of death and time periods of exposure. The legally controlled body farms are important for forensic anthropology, and crime research. Other smaller but similar concept outdoor areas are usually present for most universities and colleges. These usually deal with small animals that have died natural deaths, such as cattle, bird, or rats. There are five of these set up in the United States with this one being the first. A film crew was sent to the place to talk with an expert about this. He goes into a bit of detail of how they originated and the various conditions that can be altered.
