Hi, what are you looking for?

Apocalyptic Blues

The Antagonist…

Are you ready for 13:30 minutes of blood, sonic walls of rawness, and raging waterfalls of crustified fury? If you are, Sweden’s Age of Woe is the band for you. On their 2011 self-titled 7″, out now via Addiction To War Records, they give audio greatness a new death mask. All three songs on this album offer the right kind brain damage, and will have you saying, hot damn, these humans can write awesome songs! Age of Woe have me shaking the hands of madness with the way they whip my thoughts into a frenzy with their majestic blackened riffage. This band knows how to conjure up fast-moving rivers of passion that sculpt land into monoliths of anger and truth. I feel like every note this band blasts out is telling a story, and when they put them all together they are making fucking history. Age of Woe straight wrecks shop on their composition “The Antagonist” – I was hooked from the very first second, and if you aren’t, get your fucking ears checked! These dudes are not trying to be anyone but themselves, which comes through in the music they make. What really impresses me is the way that they are willing to take chances with their sound. The production on the 7″ sounds huge, but still has the filth & dirge I must have in my music. AOW will have you in a headlock by the time their song “No Remorse” starts blasting through your speakers. When I play this tune, I feel like it’s squeezing the air out of me, wrapping my throat in tight grooves while the beat smacks me in the face. Their vocalist, Sonny, kills it with his delivery – the misery of his torment comes through in every word that passes through his voice box. I feel honored to be reviewing this 7″; all I ask from Age of Woe is to keep kicking me and the rest of the world in the head with their gnarly tunes! Stay tuned…CVLT Nation has some rad things in motion with this band.
