Do books and movies make you want to do things like razor-slash shoplifters and axe your landlord’s daughter? In Dario Argento’s Tenebre, Peter Neal’s books inspire a violent killing spree. Well. I once knew a guy who torched a church because of black metal. So the answer is: YES.
Have you ever lusted for hot, bloody summer camp sex (no bra) because of Sleepaway Camp? Have you ever wanted to try prostitution because it looked so glam on Elisabeth Shue? It can be as simple as wishing you were shipwrecked in the Blue Lagoon with your naked crush. Or as tragic as being with a guy because he reminds you of Sid Vicious (and maybe even wishing he will stab you one day).
Media inspires us. And if it doesn’t inspire you, you are probably really boring and not bangable. But guess WHAT? Inspiration is everywhere. Like in the News. How many of you are totally inspired to write a steamy coke sex fan fic about Rob Ford?
…Anyone?
In Tenebre, Christiano Berti thinks Neal’s books are straight dope. So dope that he goes on a bloody rampage. Horrific, yes, but also a high compliment for the author. And thank god Berti is so inspired because he gives us one of the best scenes in the entire movie: the sexy lesbian slaughter scene. A brutal bloodbath of busty, naked lesbo babes.
Another salient moment for me is, of course, the dreamy sex humiliation sequence suffered by Neal. At the hands of an evil vixen who throat fucks him with her high heel.
HER HIGH HEEL.
But I’m really tired of people blaming things like choke sex deaths on porn. It robs us of our agency. We are not drones. Some of us are easily hypnotized. If that’s you, I don’t feel sorry for you. Because life is like a fucking video game. You can die over and over, or you can take control and drive that bitch.
