Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Video Essay

Some bands are just on another plane of reality…the Canadian band Godspeed You! Black Emperor happens to one of those bands. They are true architects of sound, building castles of emotion with their music. I have been a huge fan of this band for many years, & everything that they create amazes me. Something I find fascinating is that their music doesn’t sound punk rock, but at the same time I can hear the angst of punk, plus you feel the heavy hand of doom as well. They way that they conduct their tours & have remained independent to this day has totally earned my respect. When I listen to their music, it makes me feel like someone is painting a masterpiece inside of my ears. Godspeed You! Black Emperor has played many roles in my life: healer, teacher & looking glass, plus they are a huge source of inspiration to me to get off my ass to make things happen on my own terms. It’s a trip that bands speak to me so much only through instrumentation. If I could choose one band for my daughters to get into, it would be them. What I have been told is that to really experience Godspeed You! Black Emperor you must see them live, which has not happened yet for me, but will someday. In the meantime, CVLT Nation is stoked to share with you some live videos from this killer band Godspeed You! Black Emperor. So after the jump, get ready for your mind to expand & enjoy this rad live footage!

Yes! I’ve always thought that they have a punk attitude too. These punk tendencies is even further prominent in lyrics of Efrim Menuck’s other band A Silver Mt. Zion.
