Summon the Moon…
WINDHAND
Review

In the awesome graveyard of doom, another epic corpse has risen to bring the universe a new sound of black magic! They go by the name of WINDHAND, and this Virginia band are releasing their self-titled debut on Forcefield Records on Oct 25th. Every motherfucking thing about this album is straight Ultramatic Doomtastic – not one feeble or weak song in the bunch. WINDHAND’s songs are like watching a mystic candle, when the dancing flame has you under its’ spell, then you put some of the hot wax on your finger so you can be at one with the flame. This band’s slow, groovy bass lines are on fire, and trust me, you will not mind if they burn you just a little. Some humans might call this band’s sounds retro; I, on the doom side, do not agree with them, the songs on this album will launch your thoughts into the future! WINDHAND takes apocalyptic blues, puts it into a punk bong, lights it with a Sabbath lighter and exhales rad clouds made out of fuzzed out bliss. The vocalist actually melts into every fucking track, and one thing you can tell is this human has lived a soulful life, which you will hear in the words. When I listen to WINDHAND, one word that keeps coming to my mind is magic – maybe it’s because the riffage on this record sounds like it has been made by the hands of a wizard from the land where unicorns dwell and the trees speak! When you hear the wind start howling on their tune “Winter Sun,” for no apparent reason, you will realize that you are in for something rad. Then creepy heavy drums begin to pound away at your fears, before your whole being is swept away into a vortex were resin-filled bass lines will set you free. WINDHAND is not done working with the elements of mother nature – their next track, “Heap Wolves,” is so well written, that every instrument has a story to tell and all you will want to do is allow every sonic tone to vibrate into you soul! I almost feel like this band doesn’t even write their songs, I would not be surprised if all of their inspiration is channeled into them from an ancient oracle. WINDHAND are way more than a band that you should be on the look out for, they are group of humans that will change the way your hear doom.
