CVLT Nation’s Band of the Month
Rot in Total Doom: IRN Review + Stream

Who said that an awesome sludge-doom album needs to necessarily have mile-long songs a billion riffs that go on forever and last an entire day? Take IRN for instance, in just thirty eight minutes of crawling necrotic fucking hate-fueled slowness they deliver the damn goods more and better than many doom bands who these days think they need to pack in an hour of music steeped with outrageous tricks and summersaults to sound compelling.

IRN is a curious entity to say the least. They reach the maximum yield of disfiguring and revolting filth with the minimum effort and with extreme simplicity and ease, which makes this release extremely easy and fun to sit down with. Their music is nothing refined but it has at its core a great and rare quality these days: it gets a point across in seconds and extremely efficiently. Two notes of this maggot-infested music and you will be able to literally envision corpses coming to life in front of you, rising to their feet and reaching out for your poor throat to rip out your windpipe and strangle you with it. This music is so rotten, comatose and decomposed that it literrally pours out of the speakers like slime, crawls up your spine and slithers into your ear ducts like some sort of parasitic worm aiming to nest in your skull and feed on your sorry brain. Electric Wizard, Sleep , Corrupted and Moss are clear influences of these three canadian freaks, and this music besides evil, putrid and completely decomposed also feels highly narcotic-fueled and stoned out of its goddamn mind. But the boys have no fear in weirding it up even further, often slowing it down and downtuning even more than what sounds humanly acceptable to reach a state of complete and obliterating decomposing coma, and adding weird and deranged soloing and noise inserts from time to time into the mix to give the whole thing an aven more deformed, unpredictable and completely wacked out form of delivery. The guys really know how to run a shiver down your spine and weird you out for good, so give this freakish sludge-doom album a listen it will creep you the fuck out!
