On October 16th, Hydra Head Records will release an unparalleled 12″ split from MAMIFFER//PYRAMIDS. Hydra Head is going all out with this release, offering it in a limited press of 1000 on Black, Beige, and Clear/Black vinyl, and also including a limited edition photo book by MAMIFFER’s Faith Coliccia with the Clear/Black vinyl. Since Hydra Head will sadly soon be no more, we are sure you realize the importance of adding their last releases to your collection, and this 35-minute masterpiece from these two highly respected bands is no exception. Today, we have been given the honor of giving away test-presses of the MAMIFFER//PYRAMIDS split 12″ to three of our lucky readers! Just email us at contest@cvltnation.com with “MAMIFFER//PYRAMIDS” in the subject, and we’ll choose three winners at random at noon on Friday, October 12th. Check out more details about the upcoming split, including where to pre-order and an excerpt from a recent Hammer Smashed Sound review, and to our European readers: MAMIFFER will be on your continent starting this weekend, so check their tour dates after the jump!
The winners have been chosen! Thanks to everyone that enteres, make sure to head out to a Mamiffer show if they’re coming to your city!

Review via Hammer Smashed Sound:
Both bands defy categorization, as they fuse elements of post-rock, noise, ambient music, and other genres into uniquely experimental application of dense, hypnotic sound. As if both bands weren’t nuanced enough already, they continue to push the envelope; Mamiffer, which is typically known for a a number of beautiful, haunting, piano-based tracks, has morphed into something entirely different here. They’ve brought more harsh, electronic noise into the mix, especially on the second track, “Ticha Noc” which features the stunningly gorgeous, ephemeral vocals of Faith Coloccia playing over top of the noise. One of the best Mamiffer tracks to date, without question.
If you’ve heard Pyramids (and if you haven’t, what the hell is your excuse?), you should know enough by now that there is no way to predict what this project will offer next. Their track for this split, “This Is One For Everyone” embraces this idea of expecting the unexpected. This is raw, and aggressive, but at the same times sounds almost blissfully drugged-out and hazy. It seems to represent a dichotomy that I think one will only be able to appreciate and understand once they’ve heard it a dozen or so times. This one requires that you spend time with it – not for analysis, but for absorption.

With great excitement we announce the brand new release from cryptic Seattle duo Mamiffer and the elusive Denton, TX band Pyramids. The resulting split by these two bands could almost qualify as a collaboration of sorts. Though the two sides of the record are both the independent product of each group, the record has a unified mission. Together they have forged a singular statement of pathos and redemption, beauty and menace.
35 minutes of new music. Limited to 1000 copies.
