I Am The Liquor…

Stream/Download

So here is the deal, stop what you are doing and tune in to one of the best black metal albums released this year Avulse’s I Am The Liquor. Once you press play, these 10 stellar songs might change the way you feel about black metal. Avulse creates music that has D-Beat arms, a USBM skeleton, Punk legs and an Emotionally Blackened brain, and this is why he is on some next shit! The tones of pain, torture and sorrow are painted in a way that have a grand sense of empathy to them. There are times when I have I Am The Liquor on, and I feel like the riffs are ghosts guiding me through my past lives. The tones that Avulse is able to conjure up are sublime and haunting. This creator from the underworld is flipping the script with his warped charred blues – one tune that brings this fact home is the intro to I Am The Liquor, it’s total black magic at work! What really gets me hyped is the way he infuses d-beat fury into his song structures, it gives many of his compositions just the right punch. When you hear “Maker’s March,” it’s starts to squeeze your head in a grip of hate that massages your nightmares into your dreams. “Kiss The Bottle” is a Jawbreaker cover that Avulse knocks out of the park. Avulse is a hooded master at making demonic melody appear out of nowhere to shower your inner decay in black rain. The vocals are perfectly mixed into the songs, plus they sound bitchin as fuck! I think it’s safe to say that Avulse listens to more than just black metal, because he has this strange way of allowing his other influences to shine through in a very organic way. The fact that he has an open mind keeps the music he creates extra interesting, but what’s rad is that it never seems like he is on some hybrid shit. When I think of American Black Metal, this is the kind of music that comes to mind, it’s free of being contrived. I guess you could say that this is dark music with a black heart and a demented soul. I Am The Liquor is on constant rotation in the CVLT Nation HQ, and guess what, you can download it for free HERE, plus check out the stream below!
