Hi, what are you looking for?

Death Metal

Gatecreeper – s/t Review.Video.Stream

Crushing! Gatecreeper gate-crash the crowded Swedeath d-beat hybrid scene with true destructive power. Don’t want to wait til you can bang your head to the breakdown, Gatecreeper have you covered. A little groove helps, as the band spend little time dilly-dallying with melodic touches, and get on with the hardcore bash. This death metal rocks like an axe chopping a huge chunk of log in half!

The rhythm section provides soundtrack to a demolition, as the bass rumbles and the drums get pounded into oblivion. The riffs are catchy power-chord buzzsaw swipes of the thick strings, down-tuned for one purpose – make you bang your fucking head!

You’ll love standout track, Overdose, for its monster girth and gurgling bellow. The bass is amped on this album and it helps a lot. This is dirty, sewage-seeped death metal for those who like their music stinky, sweaty, and well-done in the worst ways known to alt rockers.

It’s a short album and it begs for repeats. I challenge you Swedeath metal lovers to turn a deaf ear on Gatecreeper. They’re not innovative, technical or melodic, but they add a huge chunk of hardcore stomp to Swedeath in a way that just can’t be taken for granted. Jaded Swedeath dreamers stuck in Sweven, you have been warned!

With faster tempos, Gatecreeper sounds like an aural abattoir for mere mortals. Opener, “Void,” softens the walls of your apartment before the next three tracks level the place to leave you homeless. When the double bass drum kicks into high gear, you’ll feel immersed in a dense wall of sound.

I can’t write enough to fill my word count quota without you missing the point. Cassette copies are already sold out so write to your friendly neighborhood DIY label to get this re-pressed. Meanwhile, go to Gatecreeper’s bandcamp site and play this fucker loud to piss off the neighbors listening to their boring lite rock stations!
