Fuckers… Strutter Demo 2015 Review

The state of punk music these days is an interesting situation. On the one hand, you have bands with members old enough to be your grandpa singing about Margret Thatcher that headline Punk Rock Bowling every year. On the other hand, however, you have an amazing bag of bands to pick from that are young, energetic and coming to a basement or dive bar near you. Bands like Dawn of Humans, Gag, Bed Bugs, Nervosas, Nudes and EEL are tearing up everything in their path right now, and no one is safe!

Now joining the ranks of these all mighty young guns is Strutter. Straight out of the southwest, Strutter delivers simple but adrenaline-boosting songs that will force any onlooker to immediately begin breaking shit. The band’s seven song demo was released in April of 2015, and one listen will give your computer the punkest virus on the internet! What’s more punk than ruining your computer that was forged in slave labor? Fucking nothing! In fact, I’d argue that its the punkest thing ever to break any device that perpetuates exploited labor. Right after I listen to Strutter’s demo one more time, I think I’m gonna smash my computer in the name of punk.

Anyway, Strutter brings together all the energy and simplicity that got you and your friends into punk in the first place. Four power chords, fast drums and pissed off vocals – what more could you possibly want in a band? Not complex enough for you? Then go to a venue with a barrier and ex-cop security guards to see a show. Strutter isn’t the band for genre snobs, they’re the band that brings the party. Got a storage unit? Perfect, let Strutter play in it. Having a house show? Book Strutter. Do you own a brothel? Give me a call! Oh, and I guess let Strutter play too. In all seriousness, it’s not easy to be recognized in music these days, and a band like Strutter that has beautifully combined elements of the old with the new deserves, if nothing else, your ears for a mere nine minutes. So what are you waiting for? Put on your finest punk costume and get down to some Strutter!
