Förgjord: Sielunvihollinen

The Finnish barbarian stormfront opens up again. Already ablaze in prominence and prolific influence are the likes of Satanic Warmaster, & Goatmoon. It is as if the blacksmiths were busy forging their hammers on the stone, and here they produced one of the rarest forms of metal, black metal. The quality of which they gave the name Forgjord.

Although I am obviously not a native Finn, many know what a Finnish person sounds like when they are pissed off. This is the personified style of the vokals, sprawled out over an unedited, dirty black metal grind. It seems with the former mentioned acts of Finland there is a submersed array of more “catchy” riffs, and epic or militant quality. This happens to be continued therein with Forgjord. I personally think it has something to do with the nordic folklore, and history. The romanticized or atavistic embrace of its dark past and legendary are fuel their malevolent fire. That being said, there is no special blend for this style of music, it is orthdox in almost all means, but for some this would be the point of interest. But before you go masturbating on having another raw black metal band to add to your cult collection, I would give this an honest listen and see what else it offers. I associate their sound with movement. One gets the impression of ascending and descending levels, or the ebb and flow of a sea. It would be better listened on a walk. There is enough diversity to place each track on its own plane, and an overall sense of triumph and overcoming feeling in the record. And the effect that the band was not just making this for others but purely for themselves. That is all I really have to say of this one.
