Dark Forest…Rainbath Visual

Rainbath Visual, aka Reuban Sawyer, is the visual mastermind behind releases from Deafheaven, Altar of Plagues, Idyllis, Oikos, Ash Borer, Fell Voices and many others. One of our awesome bloggers, Bryan, put me on to his artwork, and I am so happy he did. Sawyer’s work has a dark delicacy to it; he creates abstract images with precise detail. Looking at many of his pieces, I feel myself drawn into a shadowy world, where my mind enters a shamanic, mushroom-enhanced state and even the darkest parts writhe with shapes and beings. His lines shift before my eyes, my brain seeing a myriad of images emerging from the same place. His themes are often to do with Nature, which makes perfect sense with his artistic style. I have spent many years living deep in the forests of Northern British Columbia, and I know that in the smallest patch of moss there are epic universes of life to discover, and I feel like he captures this sense of infinite possibility with his artwork. He demonstrates the complexity of the natural world, and also its’ simplicity of cycle upon cycle of life and death, often with a frame of solid space around a central image, like the Earth floats in a vast empty vacuum of Dark Matter. So after contemplating his artwork with all of these deep thoughts, how stoked was I to find out that Gilead Media is currently auctioning off his original artwork for the Deafheaven, Ash Borer and Fell Voices releases on eBay! Let’s just say, sometimes I wish I was more corporate than creative, because then I would have cash to spare to pick up some truly stunning original artwork. Oh well…I guess you can have it instead! Check out the auctions HERE, they end Sept. 2nd at Midnight PT, so think fast. Stay tuned for Bryan’s upcoming CVLT Nation interview with Reuban Sawyer. Also, check out a gallery of some of his work after the jump…
