Creatures Vs. Skinfather

Creatures interviews Skinfather.

First off, where did you get the band’s name?

We got it from a Dismember song. Most of us are inspired by death metal bands. We originally had about 5 different band names floating around, and this one always stuck out from the rest.

Can you give me a more in-depth opinion on your lyrics, the subjects you talk about and why you feel that way?

Lyrically, we try to portray a secular perspective. All of our lyrics deal with Atheism in some way. We felt like too many bands out there were preaching satanic views, even though they don’t really believe in it. A few of our members are religious, but for the ones that are atheist, the lyrics explain the distain we have for organized religion and faith in general.

How was the experience recording with T. Young at The Pit Studios?

It was awesome. It was easily the most comfortable studio any of us have been in. He knew exactly what we were going for and brought our vision to life. He will definitely be recommended to other bands. He cuts out a lot of the bullshit and will tell it exactly how it is and what needs to done, which in the studio will save a ton of time.

Kurt, I assume since you have long hair you’re headbanging to some shredding bands. I would like to know what are some of your favorite bands and how they influence you today?

Kurt – Well, my all time favorite band will always be At the Gates. That band’s riffs are unparalleled. Swedish death metal in general has always been way ahead of its time. I’ve been listening to Amon Amarth consistently for a while now too. I guess that might explain the hair and gratuitous amount of headbanging. Oh and Slayer, can’t forget Slayer.

What, as a band, are your biggest obstacles in writing music?

Kurt – When we first started, it was hard just to keep consistent members for the band. We had a new guitarist or singer every other week, which really made it hard to finalize our songs. Once we got a solid line up with the addition of Andrew and Scott, it really wasn’t too hard to get everything finalized. We had a long writing process, but only because we wanted everything to sound perfect.

Scott – My biggest obstacle in writing music is myself. I’ll write a bunch of material then throw out 90% of it the next day. But I think that makes me a stronger songwriter.

In the future will we hear more circle pit? more mosh? or more head bang?

Scott – I tend to write “harder” riffs so the pit will be my responsibility for our new stuff. But I’m too old for that shit, so headbang.

Kurt – Maybe something along the lines of more of everything. We want to progress, but at the same time keep it similar to our other stuff we have released.

Taylor – Circle pits will be faster, heavy parts heavier and more heads will be banged.

When you play a really hard riff do you get that mean face?

Scott – I just make poop faces when I play.

Kurt – My face is consistently mean 24/7.

Taylor – What face?

Greg – I looked scared/nervous 24/7?

Staying on topic, whats your favorite color jelly bean?

Scott – Cheesecake

Kurt – Blood

Taylor – Tutti Fucking Frutti

How excited are you to play with us, Creatures, on the CVLT NATION show?

Scott – I’m going to be fucking PISSED if they don’t play old stuff.

Kurt – All the dudes in Creatures are some of our best friends. We hang with those guys all the time anyways so playing a show with them just gives us another chance to hang out and headbang together. All the guys in Creatures are amazing musicians and its fun to stand up front and throw up metal horns.

Greg – Agreed with Scott, play a couple old songs so I can mosh and climb on people.

Are there any last words you would like to add to this interview?

Disgrace: Songs of Suffering
Harness: Victim of Suffering
