Body of Stone…HORDES Review

Hot DAMN! I have been meaning to review this band for a long time…before I get started, I must let you know that they are nothing to fuck with! They are from Southern California & go by the name of HORDES. 2010 was the year that they released their super gnarly demo – it’s 7 songs of audio murder. This band is killer for the way that they merge genres without sounding contrived. I can tell you the reason they are able to achieve this: they make damaged & deranged soul music. When you hear their second track, “Solace,” it will strangle you with a manic groove, then pound your head into ground with power & violence. HORDES can totally switch gears into some grindcore speed at the blink of a eye, then break shit down to the nitty gritty & have you head banging to the rhythm of some dirty sludge. The thing about this band is that they have a firm foundation in hardcore, & I feel like this is the glue that holds everything together. The vocalist of HORDES lays it all on the line with every song, & the band stays in the pocket that’s for sure. On the real, there is thriving scene in California & HORDES are in the pack of epic bands coming out of this bankrupt state. The thing about this demo is that when you listen to it, it doesn’t sound like a demo at all, just an off the hook collection of gnarly tunes.
