I first got my head beat in by the LAPD in 1982 while attending a hardcore show, but I had seen my family members harassed by these pigs from day one. Chief Daryl Gates was the head asshole who gave the orders to crack in the heads of punks during the 80’s. Many times this police brutality took place in South Central or East Los Angeles, because the only neighborhoods that would let us hold shows were those of the people of color. This was same regime that would one day beat in the head of Rodney King and then get off on all charges. Then Los Angeles would go up in flames, because many people in the hood had had enough of the racist system and were tired of turning the other cheek. I recently watched a VH1 documentary entitled Uprising: Hip-Hop and The L.A. Riots, and surprisingly, it is the most in-depth film I have ever seen on this subject matter. Not everything that took place during that time was right, but when people are mistreated for decades at the hands of a racist police force, anything can happen when they finally react. Now repeat after me: FUCK THE POLICE! and watch Uprising: Hip-Hop and The L.A. Riots after the jump!
