Daniel Valencia, aka Fenomeno Design, is a graphic designer out of Chile who creates pieces of massive darkness and beauty for many Black Metal bands out of his native land and elsewhere. While his day job is at a legit art agency, working for big corporate names, his passion is artwork for metal’s darkest. His work has the depth of the pits of Hell, where the descent is an eternity, bearing witness to the tortured souls that writhe and scream in deafening slow motion. His work reminds me of a realistic portrayal of Dante’s Inferno; he captures the layered quality of the underworld in all its violent chaos, where terrifying faces emerge from absolute darkness. There is also an ancient quality in his imagery that recalls pre-historic civilizations, the ones that live in human supernatural legends and left strange and mystifying marks on our world.
