Hi, what are you looking for?

Doom

Black Temple Below

Italy’s Black Temple Below are like a coven of occultists who incorporate the sounds of sludge, doom, the sewer, Lovecraft and the odd sleazy riff. The first song on this ‘Mouring At The Entrance’ blends into the next ‘Rise Of The Putrid Moon’, which starts the proceedings like the coming down off a very heavy drinking binge, heavy slow and paced. The word ‘risseeeeeeee’ is bellowed out over unholy lumbering chords. After a while you picture the vocalist looking like a mixture of Alien/Predator tearing the spines and skulls out of bodies and the bellowing vocal is the bile that drips from it’s mouth. The drone crunches violently, like a sense of dread permeating in the shadows then goes back into the darkness.

‘Beyond The Cosmic Depths’ has a stoner type feel but still is hovering and sickening. ‘Mountains Of Iconoclasm’ I think is the best song on this. Starting off with a great crunching riff and an errie chant. The bass echos and descends into a VERY heavy-as-hell bludgeoning guitar sound, gloomy as fuck. Black Temple Below consists of people from Cancer Spreading, Jesus Ain’t in Poland, Campus Stermini, Austerity, Adamennon and Terror Firmer. The difference from their other bands here is they have slowed right down. And have turned the music into more of a ritualistic experience with reference to Lovecraft (in their song ‘The Feast Of Eihort’) and Sunn O))).

In the next while they have a split coming out with Austerity, an ep and a split 10″ with Fuoco Fatuo.
