Absorb is a Victoria, BC based sculptor whose tumescent artwork bubbles and writhes before your very eyes. Using plastic figurines, cassette tapes and other “junk,” Absorb melds together his imagery to invoke a post-Apocalyptic wasteland populated by cancerous creatures. He calls his works “dumpster art,” presumably because many of the objects he uses for his creations are salvaged from dumpsters around Victoria. Absorb finds a new use for our waste, molding it into fantastic churning landscapes, where faces emerge from its’ surfaces smiling or screaming. Using electrical wiring, cords, destroyed TVs and plug sockets, he makes chaotic bodies out of seething black plastic. His screaming-monkey-face-coming-out-of-a-TV (for lack of a better description) reflects what I feel when I see my neighbors and their kids staring blankly into their flat screen that takes up their entire living room. Absorb also runs the small label No One’s Ark, which produces small run releases and also organizes guerrilla outdoor shows with Victoria sound system Ear Raid.
