Snap…Hip-Hop is in the place to be! The connection between the early punk movement and the early hip hop movement has been well documented. Growing up in California, I saw first hand how hardcore kids embraced rap. All you have to do is go back to the first Youth Brigade album and peep their attempt at creating a hip hop jam. Many documentaries have been made about the history of the rebel music from South Bronx, but Beat this!: a Hip-Hop History is by far the best. You can smell the funk of NYC jumping out of the screen, plus it’s rad seeing some off the chain style from back in the day! Rock out to the funky beat and peep this film!
