BACK FROM THE DEAD: Colony – Faithealer

The Hudson Valley four-piece that goes under the name COLONY abruptly decided to put the project on hold in late 2012 – early 2013. With guitarist Mario Cipriano being offered an opportunity to move to the west coast, the band was put on the back burner until recently, when Mario had come back to the Valley. Prior to their “hiatus” or whatever you would like to call it, the band went into the studio to record an LP that was to be released on Glory Kid Ltd. Post-recording, the overall vibe of the record was not what the band had in mind, and decided to hold off on releasing it. When the break was announced, they decided to release a 4 song EP titled Faithealer which is finally seeing the light of day on Cassette through Glory Kid.

The Faithealer EP was a sure sign of the progression they made as a 4 piece, with guitarist Tom Burkland and bassist Dave Harris on vocal duties. Colony makes a lot of nods to the likes of 108, Cursed and early Converge on this release, and I hope they continue to build on that, because these are some of their best songs to date.

According to Tom, the band is working on new material as we speak. “We’re currently writing new music and trying to play shows whenever we can.  We’ll probably bring some songs we recorded at the same time as Faithealer back to the drawing board and try to re-work some stuff.”

Look out for Colony’s debut LP to drop later this year, and if you’re in the area, check out their 2 Comeback / Faithealer shows.
