When Hatewaves was forming, were you aware that Alex was an ex-member of 25 Ta Life? Is this something you admire about Alex, or is it something you wish I hadn’t mentioned?
I was well aware of the Beast’s history with 25 ta Life and Comin Correct. Did you know that he moved to Baltimore from North Carolina with a metal core band called CASTE. He also was the original drummer for Mike Riley’s other band, Paper dragons, and did a quick session or two with a noise band called Rough Sex (no pun intended).
I admire his time with 25 ta life. After knowing him for the past five years, I can safely say the Beast’s time with the life made him into a grown ass man and has made him a shining example for his peers.
Has Alex ever pushed for Hatewaves to do a 25 Ta Life cover?
It’s been discussed, but since Hatewaves features two (2!) ex-members of 25 ta Life, it wouldn’t be tasteful.
What is the meaning behind the band name Hatewaves, why not a more thuggish/New York sounding name like 25 Ta Life?
Hate Waves relates to an old icelandic legend, wherein, a powerful man lived in a volcano. He was honorable, more inquisitive then zarathustra, primitive yet cunning. He was loved by many women and feared amongst his enemies and boyfriends everywhere. The legend goes that not only could he beat anyone’s ass but he could finish his enemies by projecting hate waves through his eyes. We have significant evidence that the Beast is a descendant of this legend. We didn’t want to use a New York sounding name because the Beast is currently at war with the city of New York.
Where were you the day Alex’s former bandmate, Rick Ta Life, rode a horse?
I was probably in high school wondering if there was a hero I could believe in and wishing I was getting laid. I think you’re asking me the wrong question: What was the BEAST doing the day his band mate RICK TA LIFE rode a horse
What bands are you most excited to see at the show in January, and are you upset that 25 Ta Life isn’t playing?
