New Hampshire’s PANGEA have that what I call the “these motherfuckers are superdelic rad” factor! On their brand-new album, Hollow Hearts, released by Hotfoot Records, they have more depth than a bottomless pit! This band bangs out ten ballistic hardcore tracks on this album but it’s the fact that they infuse so much honest urgency into every last millisecond of Hollow Hearts that will make recognize why PANGEA wrecked concrete with this album. I’m so into the the songwriting – it’s fucking bonkers. I totally dig the full-on energy that all on the compositions have, but it’s when they dive into their gnarly breakdowns that I say, unholy hell, keep it coming! PANGEA has a whiplash effect down to the nitty gritty, and it’s their use of metallic melody that also makes this album stand out. They know how to use negative space via distortion and feedback, which makes for even more texture on this album. Then they come at you from three different directions on the vocal tip, with a subversive, catchy delivery. When you hear the eerie emotive intro to their song “Shapeshifter,” you will be like, this is cool, then PANGEA pours on the hot grease. They play in unity to create hardcore the way they hear it and feel it, which makes me want to hear more. The magnetic riffs that you will experience on Hollow Hearts, and the on-point drumming will make you take notice. To be able to bring something new to a genre without sounding like you are trying too hard deserves props unto itself. PANGEA’s lyrics deal with issues that we all can relate to, and from my point of view, this is what humanity needs right about now! When I hear the music on their song “Thesis,” it gives me the energy I need to get through this crazy thing called life.
