André Coelho is not only a member of the underground avant-garde post doom band Profan and psychedelic industrial band Sektor 304, he is also a fucking dope illustrator. Coelho does work for underground metal and punk bands, zines and comics from his native Portugal. Checking out his artwork, I pulled wayyy to many images to share, because there was just too much amazing and haunting artwork to choose from. Then I though maybe I should keep it simple, just put in one series, but I couldn’t decide so I am showing it all. He does psychedelic poster art with true authenticity and originality; his use of color is genius, and his black and white illustrations are stunning. His skulls are more than bone, they are skinless faces, textured with muscle tissue. Coelho also did an amazing series of illustrations for the SWF Barroselas Metalfest for the official guide to the festival. His illustrations are of the 14 Plagues from the Underground, and are gorgeous depictions of a series of apocalyptic plagues inspired by the biblical plagues of Egypt.
