Youth United Create Epic Split…
ILLUSTRATIONS/WOLFMOUTH
Review

I dig the concept of split records, because they sometimes push bands to perform on some next level shit. This is what has taken place with the split between ILLUSTRATIONS from San Antonio, TX, & WOLFMOUTH from Columbia, MO, which will be released soon via The Ghost Is Clear Records. The thing that both of these bands have in common is that they are are rad in their own right. Let’s get with the Illustrations – these dudes create really interesting hardcore that is dipped into a huge pit of caustic emotion. I know that the conviction in the singer’s voice will draw you in. When you hear the storm of fury called “Disconnect,” you will hear why I dig this band. Although, it’s the songwriting on “Swan Song” that made me say, wow, these dudes are willing to open up their hearts, and do it without sounding contrived. The riffs on their song “Widower” will get under your skin & have you hooked. What gets me about these humans is how they work in some extra awesome breakdowns and metallic melody into their songs, places where you can bury your fears. Next up are Wolfmouth – these humans create what I call chaoscore. Which means that this band’s songs have tons of that 80’s hardcore who-gives-a-fuck-about-song-structure to them & that’s why I dig them so much. Wolfmouth don’t make songs, they bleed & sweat them out. Every song on their side of the split comes straight at your throat with the knives out! It’s this bands spirit of mayhem that makes their songs so fucking rad! What really got me is the spoken word at the end of their tune, “Black & White.” Wolfmouth’s music will slap you in the back of the head with rage & integrity!
