We all wake up to the same sun, but we don’t see the light in the same way. This is because the weight of humanity effects us all in different ways, so we all have to find our own answers to the human condition. I know for me, one thing that has been able to get me through rough times or make see the world for what it’s really worth has been music. Recently, a very special record was released by London’s Momentum entitled Whetting Occam’s Razor. This album has wings, soaring over genres before landing in your shadow, illuminating the serenity of your madness. I’m impressed by the songwriting – every track is powerful while retaining a strong sense of empathy. Momentum’s music has layers; they have taken the angst of hardcore and wrapped it in raw emotion, driving their message of our tiny reality! Momentum are sonic wizards at being able to take melody and dip it in political fury so that more than just a chosen few will be able to hear their ideas. When “Vast” blasts through your speakers with it’s charging drums and killer vocals, you will have no choice but to become a fan. Momentum are not afraid to communicate their passion for creating music together, which shines through on every song and has made me a fan. I really respect the way they convey a heavy message with heavy music in a way that’s not literal. Don’t get it twisted, this band’s fucking music rages, all you have to do is hear their song “Gather” to know this! Momentum uses well placed vocal samples, which add killer flavor to Whetting Occam’s Razor. This band has created a cohesive sound that flows throughout the album. I’m sure it would be epic to see them live! It gets better – you can download their album free HERE. Also make sure to check out Alerta Antifacista / Halo of flies / Win Htein for physical copies!
