THEATRE OF HATE is a British post punk band from the early 80’s, that from my point of view never got their just due. They were made up of ex-punks who once played in some of Britian’s sickest bands: Crisis, The Pack, & The Epileptics. This band more than pushed it to the limit – they originated their own way of constructing songs. THEATRE OF HATE made only one album,Westworld, which to this very day is one of my favorite albums of all time. One element I loved about this band was their use of dub, but not in the obvious way. The way that this record was recorded & mixed made it special in it’s own right, I have never heard any other album sound like this. THEATRE OF HATE had a saxophone player in their band, and the way he played most of the time it sounded like a wailing ghost. As a frontman, Kirk Brandon had it all – his voice has an undercurrent of pain & torment to it that pulls at your heart strings. Also, hands off to Kirk for writing some killer lyrics that have stood the test of time. THEATRE OF HATE were one of those unifiying bands, meaning that post punk weirdos, goths & peace punks were all into them. If you have never heard of them, do your homework – this band has the power to make you feel what Joy Division does! CVLT Nation is super excited to be showing some really rare live footage of the mighty THEATRE OF HATE. So after the jump, let us take you to the westworld!
