Weekend Nachos Watches You SufferReview

Chicago’s Weekend Nachos possess easily one of the most terrifying sounds in all the realm of powerviolence. 2011’s monstrous “Worthless” showcased Weekend Nachos at their break-neck, crushing best. “Watch You Suffer” offers all that “Worthless” and then some.

The title track features Weekend Nachos handling their hardcore roots with bravado, replete with urgent energy and blunt-force honesty. This band has always played music conducive to moshing and general physical pain and both songs here have fair chance to outdo any prior efforts. “Watch You Suffer” maneuvers itself through the staples of the sound but does so without sounding repetitive. In fact its the monumental wrath of their output that purges any conventional sensibility. The song roots its ferocity in a desire to protect and circumvent the pain of loss, which is slowly drowned in a well of sludgy psychedelia.

“That Life of Yours” is a bleak, misanthropic stab at the ignorantly fortunate and a memoir of poisonous isolation. Weekend Nachos defines the violence in its sound here, ensnaring the listener with roars, gunblast riffs, a dark, uninviting bass and drum-conjured hellfire that carry the song into a breakdown the will surely level any venue it’s played in. This is a song to break faces to, gently of course.

A fan of quality crowd-killing, fun as hell powerviolence would do best to pick up this nifty 7″. This is Weekend Nachos at their most unapologetic and it is a sound to behold.
