Blackened stench noise all up in your brain – that’s what you get when you listen to ARTS. This band is madness multiplied times death. Their 2010 album Vault Of Heaven, via Youth Attack Records, is fucking golden black magic. I dig everything about it, from the cover art to to the very last song. This band is straight raw American black metal. Chaos & distortion are their best friends, which helps them create some killer music. One thing that I find rad about ARTS are the trap doors of melody that they set, like on the song “Perfumed Saturnine Angels” – it has a hidden catchy groove to it that just makes you rock out! The vocalist sounds like he drank 1,000 cups of homicidal blood before he laid his vocals. ARTS’ production is primitive to the max, but still clear & on point. When I listen to Vault Of Heaven, I forget that it’s black metal, because I swear they have this awesome punk vibe about them adds the right amount of mayhem. ARTS’ music is about confrontation, it’s not meant to put you in a nice state of mind, but when I play this album it makes me smile – but that’s because I’m a little off. Something about this band reminds me of the sound of cracking whips against the flesh of capitalist pigs. Their guitar work is full of rotten feedback that whips your mind into a frenzy & the drumming is on some gnarly death march styles. Call me weird, but certain parts of what they create even has this cycodelic energy to it. ARTS are at the top of the blackened punk metal game – if you want to hear intellectual, soothing metal, well this band will choke the fuck out of you. This band is pure hate-ridden angst & might be the soundtrack to your murder!
