Be Warned! Total F*****g Bedlam:
黒い樹海 (Kuroi Jukai) – Self-titled Review + Stream

Total, unchallenged, unadulterated, fucking sonic BEDLAM. Ten minutes. Only ten miserable minutes of almost senseless torment. Ten fucking minutes in which your life is ripped to pieces; in which you sink to hell, and touch the bottom of a trench of fathomless affliction. There is no other way to describe the ferocity and life-shattering violence and visionary aural wretchedness of the music crafted by Canadian powerviolence war-machine 黒い樹海 (Kuroi Jukai). Completely obscure and elusive, this mysterious powerviolence band has existed presumably for some time, littering the underground with a number of completely unfindable recordings which now the keen hands of Halifax-based underground noise/drone label AUGHT \ VOID have thankfully gathered into one single place for everyone to enjoy, under the form of a cassette tape containing some of the most disembodied, harrowing and hallucinating sonic violence ever put to tape.

Much like their peers Column of Heaven, Knelt Rote (early), Iron Lung, Pig Heart Transplant, Scumraid etc., 黒い樹海 create powerviolence that is of immeasurable wretchedness, and completely disfigured by a mauling swarm of noise and power electronics, a very carefully and meticulously engineered splicing of genres that creates a hallucinating, surreal and damaging sense of torment in the listner. Grindcore, hardcore, raw punk and (harsh)noise live in this band in a hellish symbiosis, creating a nuclear wasteland inside the listener’s mind as an inhuman barrage of scraping noise and incinerating riffs is shoved into their smoldering ear ducts.

So make no mistake – this band’s music may appear lawless and disarraying, but it’s not just “chaos” or musical “entropy.” One can not just reduce this masterful construction of violence to that. What makes 黒い樹海‘s music so fucking insane is the subtle “order” and “discipline” they use to siphon all this violence and funnel into a highly engineered superstructure of aural destruction that has devastating effects on the listener. In essence, being far from aimless, random, chaotic or confusing, even if insanely fast, unpredictable, heavy and apparently senselessly rabid, these “riffs” are amazing, and awesome, and you can hear and perceive every note played by the band, as their songs coalesce and cascade into harrowing chain reactions of amazing sonic devastation. Get this tape now before they are sold out and you hate yourself forever for missing out.
