Los Angeles’ Badblood are a top notch crust act that mean to show you just how shitty life can be. They achieve this with flying, bleeding colors with these 3 Songs. Badblood hones a deftly crafted sound that demonstrates the unforgiving nature of their message. 3 Songs is, like its namesake, a brief triad of dirty good crusty sludge that gnaws at the throat. Lo-fi but very well recorded, 3 Songs is never repetitive but maintains its bleak motif throughout its seven minutes.
The first track “Low Life” opens with teeth bared. Mosh friendly in the best way possible, “Low Life” ascends into crushing riffs midway through, providing a fake out here and there only to come back swinging. The fruitless nature of life’s progression permeates each word and is invoked with brute honesty that asks the listener to simply, in the end, accept the shitty hand dealt. “These Colors Don’t Run, They Bleed” is a blitzkrieg clocking in at barely a minute. Blistering in its speed, this second track is just as quick in its meaning: you stand out or you fade and mingle to die with the rest. “Virgin Whore” is an end of days dirge that desires nothing from the self or others but simple, cathartic death. It builds slower than the other tracks, a foreboding crescendo that rises in a thunderous riding beat. With its final moments being a sure fire face wrecker, “Virgin Whore” ends this split with a suicidal bang.
Badblood is one of the best crust bands out there and only a fool would skip giving 3 Songs or any of their releases a listen.
