A few weeks back, we featured Joshua Zeman’s documentary Cropsey, about the real life “boogeyman” of Staten Island, Andre Rand. His next film, Killer Legends, was inspired by his discoveries about Rand, and the truth behind the Cropsey legend. Killer Legends delves into some of the most iconic urban legends that have been scaring impressionable kids for generations. The Hook Man, the Killer Clown, the Man That Calls The Babysitter and the Poisoned Halloween Candy are all examined and found to have inspiration in real events – some are more creepy than the legend, and others are definitely over-exaggerated. Either way, this documentary gave me some ideas for our nightly scary storytelling sessions that my four-year-old recently implemented…beware: this documentary is not meant to scare you (it might scare some people, but I highly doubt those people come to our site). But if you are interested in crime, murder and history, you might find it entertaining.
