The Look of Death…Todesästhetik Art

Todesästhetik Art is another diamond in the Internet rough that we at CVLT Nation have had the privilege of digging up (or maybe just stumbled across). This UK artist works mainly in pencil, ink and permanent marker, and his aesthetic is very simple and rough around the edges. However, he is able to create motion and texture in his work that belies the apparent simplicity. Especially when you see the closer detailed shots of his illustrations, you are better able to appreciate the depth of emotion in his creations. Unfortunately, the picture quality is a little lacking, but I can see that if I was able to view the art physically in front of me it would be very impressive indeed. My favorites are his portraits of Death – the bulbous, skull-like head with its cavernous eyes is at once familiar and highly original. Death’s dark robes that appear solid are in fact swaying with texture and movement. The bareness of the page around Todesästhetik Art’s subjects plays beautifully with their intense detail. I was not able to find any information about this artist, but I know that I will be seeing more of his work in the future. After the jump, take a look at the illustrations of Todesästhetik Art and look Death in the face…

The very last image is the best. Very surreal and dark.
