Sometime silence is the best noise. Better yet, what about when you mix silence with feedback – now these two audio elements can really create something special when put together. I really like to hear when sonic textures are molded into otherworldly objects that can be heard, but also felt. One album that really touches me on many levels is Secret Abuse’s The Immeasurable Gift; in my universe, this band created drone magic with this release. There is something really humble about this album, the music is not trying to fly over your head, it’s trying to fly into your heart. I find interesting that this album has no words, but is still able to speak to me in so many different languages. One of the many silent voices you will hear on this album is melody, which is actually very multilingual on this record because it comes in so many shapes & sounds. Secret Abuse uses feedback & distortion as their instruments of choice, and with these elements this band can create their own solar system of planets that revolve around their imaginations. One thing that is so awesome to me about music like this is that you can hear whatever narrative flows in & out of your thoughts. Within the beauty that you will come in contact with on The Immeasurable Gift, the band still creates these rivers of tension & despair for our nightmares to swim in. By the time you come up for air, the song has morphed into a unicorn which you can ride to your next dream. I do find it strange that without any drums, this album still pulsates & pounds on your thoughts in a serial kind of way. Secret Abuse has constructed a new kind of heavy with The Immeasurable Gift, please put this on my back because I can take the weight!
