Chelsea Wolfe‘s voice makes the black sun shine the darkest in my mind. On her 2010 release, The Grime and the Glow, via Pendu Sound Recordings, she builds her own occult folk statues with eerie vocal skills. She has the power to create dark abstract portraits of nothingness in your thoughts with the tone of her voice. Her music is a perfect example of how it does not take big amps & guitars to make dense music. To me, Chelsea’s songs have an ancient quality about them that makes me feel like I’m walking in a haunted forest that is floating on fog. At times I think I’m levitating in thin air, but I’m not, I am just trapped inside one of her twisted melodies. I have always been a firm believer that a singer can say way more sinister things without screaming, and Chelsea Wolfe is proof of that. Just check out her tune “Cousins of the Antichrist”; now ask yourself, how deep is the bottomless pit? Musically she keeps it simple, with acoustic guitars, epic vocal effects, sparse beats & weird drones. What will keep you coming back to this album is Chelsea Wolfe & her imagination born in another lifetime. Her song “Mose” is my new dose of beautiful pain. After the jump, take some time to check out live videos etc…
