Freedom Assault Interviews ACxDC
You are known for imagery on your t-shirts and album covers that some people find offensive. Is this meant to offend or just done as a joke?
Neither really? I mean, on the one hand, we know that its going to offend a certain group of people, and we also know that its tongue in cheek humor will make some people laugh. But in general, the idea just pops into our heads, or it’s something we’ve been throwing around for a while or it’s a whim. Not a ton of thought is put into it until after it’s made. After it’s made is when we sort of look at it and analyze it and think about whether or not it conveys a message. A lot of people give us crap but I think you can say just as much with a t-shirt as you can with a 30 second song ha.
Sergio is a father to twins. How does this effect the band? Does it hold you back or make you more focused on what you can do?
It definitely is ONE factor in holding us “back”. In the sense that we have to make stuff count or make it happen right. Normally we would just play shows and not care about equipment or touring or whatever. Nowadays we do think things through, from shows to touring, since we have to keep into account bills and babysitters. But that happens with age as well. A lot of us have to worry about our jobs and handling normal life.
It seems like the powerviolence genre has recently gotten more popular. Why do you think has caused this?
The internet. Social networking. Hipsters. I mean hipsters in the sense that hardcore became a lot more socially acceptable. When people started figuring out that certain types of powerviolence bands were just faster hardcore bands they started infiltrating the “scene”. Especially ex-punks turned hipsters turned “punks” again. Also the metal and goth revival. But a lot of the interest in this style is really just for that. It’s for style. Everyone wants to wear the most offensive shirt. It’s why bands like Death In June or Burzum are “cool” now.
What are your favorite shows to play? (small venue basement, fest, etc.)
Each one has its cool aspect. We like legit venues because sound is usually good. We like fests because tons of people you’d never play to check you out. But we prefer small shows. We like shows that you’re on the floor and people are up close singing along and moving around. We HATE when people stand there and stare. It just makes things awkward. But if that’s their prerogative then it’s okay. We don’t have to get our way all the time haha.
With so many bands starting up nowadays what are some up and comers that we should keep an ear out for?
Sex Prisoner, Fissure, Cave State, Nomads, Early Graves, Sleepwalkers, Generacion Suicida, Theories, Death March, Badblood, Impulse, Obliterations, Permanent Ruin, Replica, Stoic Violence, Disapproval, Zero Progress, Repel, Media Blitz, Condition, Transient, Torch Runner, Amigo The Devil, etc.
In October you will be coming down to Tucson to play SWTF. Who are you most excited to play with?
BIOCIDIO. We played with them in Phoenix once. They RIPPED. Stoked to see them again. There’s a ton of good bands on the date were playing. A bunch of friends and new bands were stoked to check out.
THANK YOU for all the coverage!!
