We are so stoked that Krömosom curated Sonic Cathedrals Vol. CI. This mixtape is pure fucking FIRE FIRE FIRE…So download it NOW and make sure to go see Krömosom on their upcoming tour!
We’ve worked our collective bollocks off since last October to write, rehearse, record and release our new album: Nuclear Reich. Here’s two songs from it plus the pick of our personal influences within Kromosom – we each chose six and then threw in another couple.
Our second tour of the United States kicks off on May 17th – the same day Nuclear Reich comes out on Distort Reality. It’ll take in both coasts plus Maryland Death Fest and Chaos In Tejas – full dates here. We’re battlehardened from an arseload of recent gigs…we’re tighter than ever from weekly rehearsals…we’ve got a new record up our sleeves…and we’re touring with some amazing bands. Anyone who came out and saw us last time (see photos and read the Tour Diary from it here) knows what to expect – violence and friendship! SEE YIS IN HELL!!

Sonic Cathedrals Vol. CI Curated by Krömosom Track List
1. KRÖMOSOM – Nuclear Reich.
2. SKITSLICKERS – Sprackta Snutskallar. “Spräckta Snutskallar or Cracked Cop Skulls is the second track off the GBG 1982 ep. When I first heard this record in the ‘90s (thanx Along Apparattus!), there was nothing like it. Still today, nothing comes close to its ferociousness. No frills just pure barbaric hatred that makes me wanna smash my head on the wall. I hate cops and I love HC. This is Swedish Hardcore!!!” (Yeap)
3. GAUZE – Absinth Trip. “As young lad I became aware that the old folks were all listening to a band called Gauze. I knew if I wanted to have a go of this punk caper I better give it a listen. GOAL! Since hearing it and a few other choice cuts I gravitated to the noisier, more manic end of hardcore. When we played with them a year or two back I got so excited I gave Cormy a lil’ bop to the face. Also the drumming – delish. Knicked a few ideas over the years.” (Panky)
4. KAAOS – Natsit Ja Kommunistit. “Totally raw, out-of-control Finnish Hardcore!! This song is taken from their 1982 ep Totaalinen Kaaos. I first got into Kaaos through trading with Felix at Havoc Records. Since then, I can’t stop listening to them. They draw influences from UKHC bands but also put their own unique and aggressive twist on it. The singer Jakke sounds like he seriously doesn’t give a fuck what you think of him.. he just wanna scream in your face. Kaaos in my mind, is one of the best Finnish bands of that period.” (Yeap)
5. ISTERISMO – Quei Importanti. “Hardcore Inferno from Tokyo Japan. The name of this band pretty much describes the band. I first saw them while I was on tour with my old band Pisschrist in 2009. Their first 7” has long but sold out and collectors are selling them on Ebay for 80usd. Satoshi the singer (very kind fella) gave me his personal copy of the test press. Till today this record has been on constant rotation on my stereo. Isterismo puts Gloom, Wretched, Frigora and early Uk crust bands through a meat grinder to produce their own brand of barraging noise! Erratic explosive burst of rage that leaps out of the vinyl to punch you in the face. This monsters make punk future!!!” (Yeap)
6. LIFE – Victims. “Alongside Gloom, this band was my introduction to the madness of Japanese noisepunk. I think it was Jakob Plaguebearer who introduced me to both soon after I’d moved to Copenhagen. At that time no-one in Ireland except for my mate Eric & I and perhaps a few older chaps we didn’t know were interested in anything like this. The best thing about Life is that they’re so fucking punk but so grindingly intense at the same time; insanely good live.” (Cormy)
7. FRIGÖRA – Mardröm. “You can’t listen to this band without wanting to fucking smash everything. Tokyo maniacs worshipping Swedish HC like only the Japanese can.” (Cormy)
8. KANSAN UUTISET – Economic Appraisal. “My friend James Cody moved to the Netherlands around 2002 and got me the Killed By Finnish Hardcore LP after starting to go out with this mad Finnish girl, which is where I first heard this band. We went to Amsterdam to see Discharge when they first reformed and he gave me a present of it. It was supposed to be with Cal but he quit days before the gig and Rat stepped in. Around then I’d only heard Appendix, and this LP was a whole new world. Suomi ’83 is unlike anything else.” (Cormy)
9. KURO – Dead Heat 10000V. “One of my favorite Japanese bands alongside Lip Cream, The Execute and Deathside, however I often feel Kuro are probably one of the more original groups to come out of the early ‘80s scene. Kuro definetly have their own sound, one that’s rarely imitated.” (Yeap)
10. ANTI-CIMEX – Warmachine. “This was one of the first true hardcorepunk bands I got into. After going from being a teenage metalhead to getting into youth crew and posicore stuff and then finding out about fast brutal hardcore and powerviolence, this shit blew my fucking head off around the age of twenty. My friend and punk mentor Rob Levinge made me a tape of everything from Dropdead & Crudos to Crossed Out & No Comment to SS Decontrol & Negative Approach. He followed it up with the likes of Crucifix and Mob 47 and after that I was done for. Heavy depression hit me and I stopped drinking to try and control it and started redirecting all my spare cash to various Euro distros with exotic tape lists. This is how I first heard Disclose, Disrupt, Discontrol and a hundred others. Anything with “dis” in the title or which claimed influence by Mob47, I’d buy it. I got the two Cimex demos + this 7″ with the Shitlickers recordings on the B side and listened to it until the tape broke. They’re still my two favourite Swedish bands of all time.” (Cormy)
11. DISORDER – Education. “Fucked up noisy punk. Very rough and potent; a noise to get glued by Disorder’s lyrics embody everything that I feel towards life and humanity.” (Luke)
12. GLOOM – Uranium Bullet For Peace. “This band is a masterclass in hardcore noise punk. It took me a while to ‘get’ them; it’s not an easy listen, but this is one of their catchier songs. After you’ve gotten into entry level Japanese noisey crusty punk like Disclose, Abraham Cross or Reality Crisis, it’s time to give the real mad shit a go: Gloom. Their Friendly And Violence credo is right at the heart of Kromosom.” (Cormy)
13. CONFUSE – Indignation. “I’d like to think that more than one chaos punk accidentally got into noize simply because Confuse look so fucking cool – or at least I hope so! This song’s a fuckin classic.” (Cormy)
14. GAI – Blood Spit Night. “These three* bangers are a great soundtrack to ruining someone else’s night whilst having a blast. Drink, yell and let your hair down.” (Panky)
15. DISCHARGE – Mania For Conquest. “The best song on the WHY album. Discharge as we all know are one of the most important bands in punk history. Its only fair they get due credit.” (Luke)
16. KRÖMOSOM – Culture Degeneration.
17. COCKNEY REJECTS – Headbanger. “Oi was pretty big in the 90’s in Malaysia. Besides England belong to me. Some kids I went to high school with played The Rejects a lot. I didn’t get them then. A few years ago I started listening to them again. The Rejects are hard music without even trying to be hard. They are hard as fuck people who will knock your teeth out if you get in their way! When I out drinking and partying with me mates, this is the tune is playing in my head.” (Yeap)
18. THE EXPLOITED – Sex & Violence. *check GAI above (Panky)
19. CHAOS UK – Army. “I’ve always felt a strong connection with this band. Simplistic, unrelenting and in your face. I reckon Chaos UK have more of an influence on modern crust punk than a lot of people give them credit for, particularly their Short Sharp Shock album. Anthemic and angry lyrics that hit home for every punk.” (Luke)
20. CRUX – Keep On Running. “Tune. In a style that can easily become plodding and dull Crux show the power of belting it out with energy. Came to mind as it’s been looping in my head all week, but so has Errol by Australian Crawl. Crux wins by a whisker.” (Panky)
21. TAMPAX – UFO Dictator. *check GAI above (Panky)
22. MOTÖRHEAD – Rock ‘n’ Roll. “Very important to my appreciation of NWOBHM. And you simply can’t beat the way Lemmy spits those venomous lyrics at you. Rock ‘n’ Roll is the devils music.” (Luke)
23. DEATHSIDE – Burning Spirit. “This was the band that got me into real Japanese HC, as in the style which shares its name with this song. Trading my old band’s 12″ with a bunch of Japanese record stores in the early 2000s introduced me to a ton of insane music which had previously been spoken of in hushed tones and was nigh-on impossible to get hold of other than on scrabbly mix tapes from scene elders. None of this was available in Ireland. On first hearing it I was just perplexed; “this isn’t punk…but I want to hear it again”. Bet On The Possibilty went on to become one of my top five albums of all time. If you get into just one Burning Spirits Hardcore band…this.” (Cormy)
24. POISON IDEA – Feel The Darkness. “This is one of the darkest songs ever written by the punkest band of all time; allegedly the sordid tale of Jerry A’s girlfriend’s murder at the hands of a serial killer. If you’ve not spent time with this album you’ve badly neglected yourself. Sort it out.” (Cormy)
25. COLOURED BALLS – Whole Lotta Shakin’. “Nothing makes me wanna play music as much the Coloured Balls. A song you can really nod at ya mates and tap your foot to.” (Panky)
26. THE CURE – One Hundred Years. “My favourite Cure song. The repetitive tribal drumming, minimalistic bass and the eerie guitar sets the landscape for ol’ Robbie Smith to take you on a journey into terror. I usually can’t stand this shit but this song has always been cool.” (Yeap)
27. BAUHAUS – God In An Alcove. “Pete Murphy, amazing lyricist and vocalist. There’s something haunting about Bauhaus that make them unique compared to all other post-punk bands.” (Luke)
28. THE PRODIGY – Claustrophobic Sting. “There’s no other album in the world on par with Music For The Jilted Generation. It’s basically a punk album. The menace and churn here present is of equal intensity with any hardcore ever produced in Scandinavia, the United States or the Far East. When I was a kid you were either a rocker or a raver but I was both, until I was a teenager anyway. Every time I have a challenge ahead tracks like this and Skylined from the same album are what I’ll listen to…insanely good hype-up music.” (Cormy)
