A year ago I told The Impossible project I’d do a review of their film for a blog I have. They sent me four packs of film to test out. On Halloween while hanging out at a friends house we decided to take some drunken Halloween pics with the Polaroid film. My friends house has what we call the doom room. Its a tiny basement room that is dank/dark as fuck. When they moved in they found a bunch of Tarot cards shoved into the cracks of the walls and ceiling of the doom room. This is taken in the doom room with Polaroid 600 film.
This is Stale cum a sort of post hardcore/post metal band that does it right. Their singer is very aggressive when they play and shit gets weird when they play. At this particular show this guy who I’ve never seen before or since was shouting some shit at the drummer (not sure what it was about) anyway the singer takes a swig of wine and spits it right in this guys face and just walks away. The guy was pissed and had to be restrained and talked down. I never understand why people go to underground /basement shows and get pissy when shit gets crazy.
I could do a whole seven stories just on this show. First there was my toe nail getting ripped off because the guys who run the house made us take our shoes off (if you look carefully you can see a shoeless foot). Then there was the crackheads that threatened to stab me and a band as we did a photo shoot in an alley. In this picture the singer for Montreal’s own Thee Nodes is attempting to pull my pants down. I had one hand on my pants and another taking the picture. Seconds after taking the picture I was kicked in the face. It was a great show.
This is Henry a homeless street musician playing for us in the driveway of a punk house after a show. Henry plays slide guitar with one hand by shoving a tea cup onto his stump. There’s a lot of stories going around as to why he lost his hand my favorite (and clearly a myth) is that he was tripping on PCP and cut his own hand off with a circular saw. He’s kinda crazy but his music is damn good with that hard luck old school delta blues sound.
This is the band UBT or formerly known as uncle bad touch. At the time I didn’t know this but the singer is the Singer of Priestess. Here they are playing the basement of the Funboy Clubhouse. The only story I could think of was that I took a picture at this show that I posted on Facebook was reported as pornography. So ya.
This is Burial playing in the basement of the Kent house here in Ottawa. Not much of a story I just really like the abstract nature of this picture.
This is the Holy Cobras. No story here, I just love this band.
