There is a time & place for everything. Some events in history are born because of what is going on in society at that given time. The British punk revolution of the mid to late 70’s is one of those things. No one knew it at the time, but Thacher & her fucked government planted the seeds of punk. 1977 in the UK: people were facing all sorts of strikes, rampant racism, unemployment & despair. It’s weird how out of human struggle comes the best music & youth rebellion. One band that made it their cause to be down for the people as much as they could was the The Clash. I know Crass said we should not like them, but fuck that, they created some killer tunes that will stand the test of time. Also, they bridged the gap between rasta & hip hop culture before it was the in thing to do. Not too many people know, but they came out with a film called RUDE BOY featuring a very young Ray Firestone. The plot of this movie is pretty basic – young punk quits his shitty job & ends up as the roadie for The Clash as they tour the UK. What I really dig about this film is how it gives the viewer an idea of what life was like in Britain at the time, & it was not a pretty sight. After the jump, peep this cult classic film, RUDE BOY!
