Not to sound redundant, but Amebix is a band that has had an unbelievable impact on music; despite their short years together and only two releases in their heyday, they have stuck around and become legends. Which is why I am so stoked that they have reunited – I was at their first North American show ever at the Echo in Los Angeles, and it was mindblowing. Plus, they were just awesome dudes to hang out with, and so stoked about performing live and about the response they got from the crowd of both youngsters and OGs. I, for one, am excited about the new directions their music is headed in, because they are genius. So to pay tribute to this epic band, I wanted to post their 2009 documentary, Risen. Risen chronicles the early days of Amebix through interviews with Rob, Stig and all of the guys that were a part of the Amebix lineup over the years. Rob also reads journal entries or stories he wrote about their adventures, and it’s enthralling to listen to his eloquent accounts of living in squats or his drug-induced vomiting on a bus trip. It’s inspiring to hear the kind of shit these guys went through to create their legendary music, and then to see them today creating together again. Plus, I really enjoyed (in a confused kind of way) the interviews with drummer Martin, who lived in the Glebe house with Alexander Crowley’s spirit, and claims to have introduced Satanism into Amebix in that creepy, misty house. I believe him. After the jump, watch the full 2009 Risen documentary, and get ready for the new Amebix record out this fall…
