Nothing is Sacred
NUDES – Skin EP:Review

Well folks, Nudes are an attention grabber.

I say that in the best possible way, as their Skin EP is one of the more pissed EPs I’ve heard this year. That’s not to say other, angrier music hasn’t come out… but still. Do yourself a favor and cop this six song hellfuck and blast it in your car. In terms of sound, you can expect a pretty jarring exemplification of punk tendencies. Nudes are not so different than the crops of burn-out punk bands that have been popping up all across the globe and blogosphere. The distinctly thin production quality and guitar riffs orient the listener to more of a traditional, rapid era of punk. Really though, this is the perfect platform for Nudes to be broadcasting from, as it is a demographic they’ll surely appease and be well-liked by.

Some of the highlight moments on the EP come from the first two tracks entitled “Nothing is Sacred” and “Grasping/Churring/Gnawing.” While the opener, “Nothing is Sacred,” opens with a feedbacky, punk “drawing of the line,” “Grasping” comes out of the gates angry and swinging. There are slight notes of and jeers at Ramones-esque sneering throughout the EP which effectively adds to the chaos throughout.

Lyrically, the latter end of the EP is more personal, at least in my opinion, as it abruptly tosses the listener into sonic discord and social anxiety. “Night Terrors” is a constantly building and falling track that harkens back to those 80s punk moments I mentioned before. The EP eventually closes with the self-titled track “Skin” which without a doubt is the most stand-out track. It’s bouncy and arhythmic, but without out a doubt a song built for kids to smash into one another to. Ultimately, it serves as a great closing track to a great EP.
