Red Tape…
COLD LAKE
Review

What the fuck, I just got trapped in this dark alley and all I can hear are the spazzmatic monsters coming towards me…Actually, it’s just the Seattle noise/hardcore band Cold Lake playing through my speakers! These mutant aliens create the kind of punk I dig – every song makes you feel like running in front of a speeding train might be a good idea. What I’m really trying to say is that Cold Lake crafts songs that are anthems of angular mayhem. All of their compositions have this zig-zag quality to them you think they are going one way, then they turn a whole different direction. This band is the bastard hate child of the Circle Jerks and Fugazi on Ritalin. On the real, every song on their album Red Tape has so much tension built into it that they almost become electric! Unholy shit, their vocalist has this angst-ridden delivery that is mad catchy, plus the backing vocals are killer, so you have no choice but get with their program. Musically, Cold Lake can bring the noise – which I know must be awesome to see live. This band is no stranger to using melody as a weapon to make the listener pay attention to what they are blasting out. When you hear their song “Boat Shoes,” I bet your head will start shaking all around and will not be able to stop…Why? Because Cold Lake has what I call the KNACK. The word on the street is that they are going into the studio soon to write new tunes, but hey, in the meantime, spazz out to Cold Lake’s spazzmatic release, Red Tape!
