Punks Creating Rad Shit…
Banks Violette: Vinyl Aesthetics
Now Showing

Punks in high places, creating killer art – now those are the kinds of moves I respect. Photographer/Filmmaker Matt Black via Nowness just made a new short movie about Banks Violette, the upstate New Yorker-artist with deep hardcore roots. It’s really nice to hear where this dude is coming from, and on the real, it’s pretty inspiring. He proves what I have always thought: that the punk/skate culture gave loads of creative humans the push in the right direction that they needed at a very early age! Banks has shown his work at some of the illest galleries around the world, but his art still maintains a punk state of mind. When you check out this video, you will see underground iconography in his pieces, and his work has a down to earth quality that I dig. So after the jump, check out the thought-provoking short film about Banks Violette by Matt Black.
